Thread Lift in Berlin:
Natural Skin Tightening with Dr. med. Meike Schröder
What is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a non-surgical treatment that provides an immediate lifting effect by placing specially developed threads beneath the skin. Depending on the desired outcome, these absorbable threads either provide pure skin tightening (e.g., for crepey skin on the décolleté) or a lifting of sagging contours (jowls, neck).
The thread lift is an effective method for restoring natural facial contours and offers many advantages over traditional surgical lifting: it involves significantly less strain on the body, no scarring, a low risk of pain or inflammation, no extensive downtime, and, above all, a very natural result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a thread lift work?
Depending on the type of threads used, a soft lifting of sagging skin areas is achieved using “barb” or “coin” threads. These integrate gently into the tissue and lift facial contours in a very natural way—without surgery or scars.
We primarily utilize PDO (polydioxanone) and polylactic acid threads, which have proven to be exceptionally well-tolerated.
Various threads are available for different needs. They all tighten and smooth the skin, ensuring a fresher, more radiant complexion. Depending on the type of threads used, the result can range from tightening to a full lifting or reshaping of the facial contours. The longevity and intensity of the effect also depend on the specific type of thread selected.
What are the benefits of a thread lift?
- Lifting of sunken contours
- Skin rejuvenation (tightening, improvement of skin tone)
- Wrinkle treatment
What is the treatment process at our practice in Berlin?
In the first step, Dr. Schröder marks the areas to be treated and applies a local anesthetic to the entry points. The lifting threads are then inserted into the subcutaneous fat tissue. Different threads and techniques are used depending on the region and desired effect. Fine, smooth, or slightly spiraled threads stimulate the formation of new connective tissue, making the skin firmer and smoother. Certain types of threads can also lift facial or neck tissue, restoring it to its original position. This modern and gentle method leaves neither wounds nor scars. The threads are resorbed by the tissue over time (depending on the thread type).

Is a thread lift treatment painful?
Prior to treatment, a local anesthetic is applied to the entry points, making the procedure virtually painless.

What should I keep in mind after a thread lift treatment?
Rubbing or applying direct pressure to the treated area should be avoided for one week (e.g., facial massages, dental treatments). Sun exposure and tanning salons should be avoided for one week. Similarly, please refrain from sports and visits to the sauna, swimming pool, or steam bath for seven days.
When are the results of a thread lift visible, and how long do they last?
The results are visible either immediately or progressively, depending on the type of threads used. With PDO threads, the maximum effect is typically reached after approximately 4 to 8 weeks. Subsequently, the threads are slowly metabolized by the body. During this degradation process, collagen production in the subcutaneous tissue is increased, and the connective tissue is strengthened, creating a natural support structure. Depending on the material of the threads, the effects last between 1 and 3 years.
What are the risks and potential side effects of a thread lift?
Immediately following the treatment, local swelling, temporary discomfort, and minor bruising may occur. Slight redness, hematomas, or swelling may be visible. These side effects are usually temporary and typically subside within 1 to 3 days. Please inform us if inflammatory reactions or other undesired side effects persist so they can be addressed accordingly.
Is a thread lift compatible with other aesthetic treatments?
Particularly when combined with lipolysis (fat-dissolving injections) for jowls or a double chin, a thread lift can serve as a gentle alternative to a surgical facelift. In such cases, it is recommended to undergo lipolysis sessions before the thread lift. Furthermore, a thread lift combines excellently with other treatments such as Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers, or fractionated laser therapy.
