Hyaluronic Acid Treatment with Dr. med. Meike Schröder in Berlin

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural, essential moisture reservoir in our skin. It provides the face with elasticity, firmness, smoothness, and soft contours. As we age, the hyaluronic acid content in the skin decreases, causing the skin to lose its youthful and supple appearance.

How does Hyaluronic Acid work?

Our skin ages gradually. Initially, fine lines appear, followed by deeper wrinkles such as nasolabial folds or “marionette lines” at the corners of the mouth and chin. Contours may also become more angular or appear sunken and sagging. Hyaluronic acid allows for a very simple correction of this loss of volume in the cheeks, temples, or lips.

In aesthetic medicine, hyaluronic acid is used in the form of synthetically produced gels that plump the skin, hydrate it through high water-binding capacity, and stimulate collagen production. We exclusively use selected, high-quality hyaluronic acid products from renowned manufacturers that have proven to be exceptionally well-tolerated and safe, meeting all required quality standards.

Which Hyaluronic Acid fillers are available?

There are now many different fillers for various indications. The most significant difference lies between cross-linked and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers.

As the name suggests, cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers consist of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. This structure provides the fillers with stability, making them excellent for treating moderate to deep wrinkles as well as for volume restoration.

Due to its structure, non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid is highly effective for treating superficial lines, such as crepey skin on the décolleté or around the eyes.

We invite you to a personal consultation. Dr. Schröder will provide individual advice on the most suitable fillers for your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the dermal filler treatment take and is anesthesia used?

The treatment usually takes about 15–30 minutes. If needed, a numbing cream is applied to the target areas beforehand. Additionally, many hyaluronic acid gels contain a local anesthetic (lidocaine), ensuring the injection is largely painless.

What will I look like immediately after the injection?

Temporary mild redness or swelling may be visible, and occasionally a small bruise may form. These symptoms usually subside very quickly, allowing you to resume your normal activities.

What should I keep in mind after the treatment?

You can return to your daily routine or work immediately. However, the treated areas should not be massaged on the day of treatment. Due to the local anesthetic, a sensation of numbness may persist for the rest of the day. Avoid heavy physical labor, “head-down” movements, and sports on the first day, as well as cosmetic treatments for the first two days.

What can I do to prevent swelling or hematomas?

Arnica D12 can be taken before and after the treatment. One week prior to the procedure, avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., Aspirin/ASA). Use the specialized anti-bruising cream we provide several times a day.

Are there alternatives to Hyaluronic Acid treatment?

The focus of aesthetic medicine has shifted from pure wrinkle correction toward improving skin quality and structure using biostimulators such as polynucleotides or exosomes. Polylactic acid (PLLA) and Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) also have a stimulating effect and are used for skin tightening. At SCHÖNE HAUT, we also frequently use Profhilo® Structura, thread lifts, or laser lifting for a very natural, refreshed look.

When should Hyaluronic Acid treatment be avoided?

Treatment should not be performed if there is a hypersensitivity to the product or its components. It is also discouraged in cases of infections at the injection site (e.g., herpes), immunosuppression, or autoimmune diseases. As a precaution, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not be treated.

How long do the results last?

The results last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the treated area, and the procedure can be repeated as often as desired. Hyaluronic acids with varying degrees of cross-linking are used depending on the depth of the wrinkles.
Highly cross-linked materials are utilized to fill deep wrinkles, enhance cheek volume, or perform ‘liquid lifts,’ and they offer greater longevity. In contrast, non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin using ultra-fine needles to restore elasticity to tired, sagging skin. Since it is metabolized more quickly, these treatments are performed at regular intervals (known as ‘Skinboosters’). Even for deeper wrinkles, a ‘touch-up’ treatment after about six months can further extend the longevity of the results.

The Hyaluronic Acid Treatment Process

Step 1

Detailed consultation, education, and marking of the injection points. Application of numbing cream.

Step 2

After careful disinfection, the filler is gently injected, often using blunt, rounded cannulas to minimize bruising.

Step 3

Gentle massage of the filler, re-disinfection, and a joint review of the immediate results. Application of post-procedure cream.

Can Hyaluronic Acid fillers be dissolved?

Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using the enzyme hyaluronidase (Hylase). The filler is liquefied, and the effect is usually visible shortly after.
