Daylight PDT Featured on ZDF’s “Volle Kanne”

Dr. med. Meike Schröder appeared on the ZDF program “Volle Kanne” to report on Daylight PDT.

Daylight Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a specialized form of light therapy used to treat superficial skin tumors, such as actinic keratoses (precursors to non-melanoma skin cancer), Bowen’s disease, or superficial basal cell carcinomas.
The procedure involves applying a photosensitizing agent (5-Amino-4-oxopentanoate (Luxerm®) or its methylated form (Metvix®)) to the tumor tissue. Natural daylight activates this substance, leading to the targeted destruction of the tumor cells.

The primary advantage of this gentle Daylight PDT lies in its low-pain yet highly effective treatment of sun damage, while carefully preserving the surrounding healthy skin.
